You're a busy woman with multiple work and family commitments. That's why you need a health partner to help you take care of you.
The Women's Wellness Center at Northwest Hospital can be that partner. Led by Dee-Dee Shiller, D.O., a board-certified gynecologist, the Women's Wellness Center offers a holistic approach to health. This approach includes annual GYN exams and the development of your very own comprehensive wellness plan based on your individual needs.
The Women's Wellness Center was created by women, for women. Here are some of the benefits the center offers its patients:
Complete GYN care, including surgery and minimally invasive techniques.
The Women's Wellness Center can meet all of your gynecologic health care needs from your annual Pap smear to advanced surgical treatments -- including minimally invasive hysterectomy -- for gynecological problems. Dr. Shiller believes that gynecology encompasses quality of life issues, including sexual health and treatments for incontinence. She also helps her patients incorporate preventive healthy behaviors into their everyday lives.
A nurse health coach who can coordinate all of your medical and alternative care appointments and help you attain your health goals.
As part of your initial appointment at the Women's Wellness Center, our health coach who's a registered nurse will meet with you to discuss your health background, your family history and your desired health goals. Our health coach will then work with you to develop a custom plan to help you become a healthier you. She can also assist you in scheduling medical tests and specialist appointments and be a guide to help you navigate alternative therapy options.
Osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) provided by Dr. Shiller.
Your body is interconnected. When one part is out of balance, it affects your whole person. As a doctor of osteopathy (D.O.), Dr. Shiller doesn't treat only your symptoms; she also considers what kind of underlying factors might be causing your health problems in the first place. The body has the natural ability to heal itself.
To help the body regain a healthy balance, Dr. Shiller uses osteopathic manipulative therapy (OMT), a hands-on technique that helps her diagnose and treat her patients. In some cases, OMT can prevent future health issues and may minimize a patient's need for more invasive therapies. OMT is done in a relaxing setting at the Women's Wellness Center.
Wellness Wednesdays, when alternative medicine specialists are onsite to provide services.
More and more, the Western medical tradition is recognizing that health and wellness benefits can be gained through the ancient healing arts of the East. On Wednesdays, specialists in alternative medicine will be at the Women's Wellness Center to see patients for the following services:
Acupuncture is a form of Eastern medicine that has been used for thousands of years. Through the insertion of small needles at acupoints in the body, acupuncture can be used to treat a wide range of medical conditions. Acupunture can also be used to promote a sense of health, relaxation and well-being.
Massage therapy helps relieve the body of tension and pain. When muscles are stressed and in spasm, massage helps restore relaxation. Massage also increases blood flow to the affected parts of the body, thus speeding healing. Therapeutic massage is commonly used alongside acupuncture and conventional medical therapies, and can be used to alleviate pain, headaches, digestive problems and even depression and high blood pressure. Some patients use massage simply to relieve the stresses of everyday life.
Meditation classes are offered to enhance patients' levels of mental and physical relaxation. Meditation helps reduce stress, stress hormones and blood pressure and promotes anti-aging. It also aids in the treatment and prevention of various health conditions.
Reikiinvolves a therapist gently laying her hands on a patient with the intention of allowing a healing energy to flow through to the patient. In conjunction with other treatments, Reiki can be used for virtually any medical condition. Cancer patients often use Reiki to help them better cope with the side effects of chemotherapy. Recipients often describe the experience as feeling a warm glow from the practitioner's hands and have an increased sense of peace and well-being after treatment.
Access to exercise classes and nutritional counseling.
What we put into our bodies plays a crucial role in our overall health. That's why we want to make it easier for our patients to eat right and incorporate fitness into their everyday lives. We offer our patients exclusive opportunities through our partnership with LifeBridge Health & Fitness. We can also help our patients set up appointments with a registered dietitian who can help them navigate through the myriad of food and diet choices and choose what is right based on their health and weight goals.
