The Division of Interventional Radiology at Sinai and Northwest Hospitals provides the most advanced targeted treatments performed with imaging guidance. Interventional radiology procedures are usually easier on patients – there is less risk, less pain and less recovery time compared to traditional surgery.
Interventional radiologists are specially trained doctors who use X-rays and other imaging techniques to "see" inside the body while they guide narrow tubes (catheters) and other very small instruments through the blood vessels and other pathways of the body to the site of a problem, treating a variety of medical disorders without surgery. Sinai and Northwest have three full-time fellowship trained interventional radiologists on staff who are committed to providing compassionate care to patients in a comfortable environment.
The division specializes in a variety of interventional radiology procedures including:
• Minimally invasive treatment of uterine fibroids
• Varicose vein consultation and treatment
• Treatment of leg pain caused by peripheral vascular disease
• Minimally invasive radiofrequency treatment for tumors
• Minimally invasive treatment of fractured and compressed vertebrae caused by osteoporosis and other spinal conditions
