August 30, 2008—Pre-Course:
Extensive Limb Lengthening for Achondroplasia
Co-Directors: Dror Paley, MD, FRCSC, and Shawn C. Standard, MD |
Achondroplasia and other dysplasias present problems of disproportionate short stature and limb deformities. Current techniques allow simultaneous correction of bony alignment, soft-tissue balancing, and extensive limb lengthening (ELL). The goals of ELL are to restore proportion between the limbs and trunk, correct rhizomelic disproportion, correct lower and upper limb deformities, reduce hyperlordosis, and increase stature to the low normal range per sex of the patient. This course will discuss these strategies of limb lengthening and deformity correction for achondroplasia and other dysplasias.

August 31 to September 3, 2008—18th Annual Baltimore Limb Deformity Course Chair: Dror Paley, MD, FRCSC
Co-Directors: John E. Herzenberg, MD, FRCSC, and Bradley M. Lamm, DPM
|
The core curriculum of this Course is based on the textbook, Principles of Deformity Correction (Springer-Verlag, 2005), and the accompanying Exercise Workbook with animated CD by Dror Paley, MD, and John E. Herzenberg, MD. Registered participants of the four-day course will receive a copy of the textbook and workbook/CD at no additional charge. If participants who are taking the four-day course already have these items and do not wish to purchase new ones, a reduced registration rate is offered. The Course will be divided into lectures and deformity planning sessions in the morning and hands-on saw bone and cadaver labs in the afternoon. Afternoon labs will include use of the Biomet Trauma, Orthofix, Smith & Nephew, and Taylor Spatial Frame fixators. A block of time will be set aside for participants to present adult and pediatric cases to their peers. Instruction will be provided by an internationally renowned faculty and by volunteer workshop instructors, many of whom are former fellows of the International Center for Limb Lengthening. This Course has a true international flavor; the 2007 event attracted participants from almost 40 countries and more than 35 states in the United States.

| September 4 and 5, 2008—Post-Course 2:
Pediatric Foot Deformity
Co-Directors: John E. Herzenberg, MD, FRCSC, and Bradley M. Lamm, DPM |
An extensive faculty of experts will be teaching the course, including such internationally famous luminaries as Vince Mosca, Lew Schon, and Bob Mendicino, amongst others. This two-day course will provide a comprehensive review of state-of-the-art treatment for pediatric foot and ankle conditions (e.g., clubfoot, flatfoot, skew foot, vertical talus, metatarsus adductus, growth arrest, coalitions, brachymetatarsia, Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, cerebral palsy foot disorders). The course will cover surgical methods and will include a hands-on workshop in which participants will apply clubfoot casts to foot models.
